Ponce Medical School Foundation, Inc., DBA Ponce Research Institute (PRI), has an unwavering commitment to providing relief efforts to communities in Puerto Rico affected by the recent seismic events. Our relief efforts are consistent with the organization’s mission as a charitable, educational, scientific 501(c)(3) Public Charity. All donations received will be used for three main purposes geared towards providing for the health and wellbeing of Puerto Rican communities:
1. Providing patient care and citizen welfare within Puerto Rico, including but not limited to: purchasing, transporting, and distributing medical supplies, food, toiletries, and other household goods to Puerto Rican residents, with a focus on southern Puerto Rico; and providing high-quality, timely, and effective medical, nursing, psychological, and public health interventions at no cost to the residents of affected areas using our medical mobile unit (Clinica del Sur).
2. Ensuring student education and welfare through efforts including but not limited to: providing health sciences students displacement and relocation stipends to enable relocation as needed to ensure timely completion of student academic programs; providing assistance scholarships for health sciences students sustaining financial losses from natural disaster events; as well as providing support to local K-12 public schools that have been impacted in order to benefit school age children from southern Puerto Rico.
3. Rebuilding, operating, and improving research facilities and capabilities associated with PRI that were impacted by recent natural disaster events, including but not limited to one of the largest clinical trial units in Puerto Rico, the only cancer tissue repository for tumors from Puerto Rican patients, and INNO Diagnostics, an immunology reference laboratory that provides low cost clinical diagnostics in multiple therapeutic areas throughout Puerto Rico.
